When Charlie started working on my duplex apartment in January 2019, the brief was rather challenging, not least because of the unusual layout of the property, but also because of my particular requirement that the ultimate design could not only meet the needs of my pets but could also withstand their presence. Beyond that, I did not have any clear idea as to what I was seeking.Charlie was at all times patient and professional, and was prepared to take on board all of my suggestions, notwithstanding the fact that, with hindsight, some of them were less than reasonable or realistic. He got the measure of what I wanted and needed fairly quickly, and was able to work around these, while simultaneously taking me out of my comfort zone. He did not, unlike some designers, shy away from affordable pieces or ideas, and was always guided by only what was likely to work.He is very knowledgeable as to options available and was an immense source of help in signposting me to suitable sources and sites, without overwhelming me with choice. Importantly, the project felt like a journey for both he and I, and it was clear that he took ownership over and pride in his work. Charlie’s Designs transformed the main floor of my house, which was built in the early 1900's, into a modern open floor plan with a great feel and flow. Charlie did a great job helping me decorate my living room and dining room. The project involved reupholstering my sofa and a chair, buying new custom furniture, and getting some items refinished. We started in February and my goal was to have everything finished for a memorial day barbecue, We made the deadline even though we hit a few glitches, none of which were Charlie's fault. I am fairly opinionated and he was quite patient, flexible and resourceful. Charlie is very generous with his time and his expertise prevented me from making some potentially costly mistakes. I am very happy with the results and enjoyed working with Charlie.

We hired Charlie Bolivare to do some interior design work for our new home in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. My wife and I had high expectations of how we wanted our place to look, but had no idea how to go about it.

Trying to find a designer was a nightmare. So many people, and so many confusing pricing schemes. Charlie was very straightforward and was honest and upfront from the start.

Charlies work started with a walkthrough to take photos and measurements. He starts with the big furniture and expands piece by piece until every detail is accounted for. Rather than just making one big purchase, he came by several times to inspect the quality of the furniture and make sure the colors matched.

He gave us the option to either purchase for us OR purchase on our own. We decided to purchase on our own, but he would do the shopping online and send links of items to buy, and make sure we liked them before we purchased.

Charlie even hooked us up with a few options of contractors (to do some small trim work and painting). The contractors also did a fantastic job and was motivated to impress Charlie as well.

Charlie is honest, creative, supportive, and I really like that he would push back on some of our bad ideas. He know's his stuff and the results are fantastic. We love the place and even every time we get a food delivery, the person looks inside and says, "Wow, really nice place!"

Charlie even came by several times after we paid his final bill to make sure small details (art, curtains, lamps, etc) were finalized and we were happy.

I was looking for an interior designer and stumbled upon Charlie's website. After the initial consultation, I hired him to redo my parents enire 5000 sq foot home. My husband and I just bought our first house. Decorating is rather overwhelming when you work full time and have two small infants. Charlie was a godsend. In a matter of few months, he has nearly furnished everything. I have to admit I had my doubts initially but now that I see the finished product it is evident he is amazing. It is with great pleasure that we write this letter of reference for Charlie Bolivare. We worked very closely with Charlie for several months in 2010 in the complete remodeling of our one-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium apartment on the Upper East Side.
Charlie listened carefully as we described our desire to recreate our apartment around a treasured piece of furniture: a mid-century modern dining room table and chairs designed and constructed by Jens Rissom in 1948. We also expressed our desire to follow a more modern pattern than mid-century, utilizing current ideas and materials.
Charlie began with a selection of gray for our main room wall that changes mood every hour of the day and under different evening lighting conditions, in which we delight and are still amazed. Within days he had spotted a full complement of furniture for the living room that we bought immediately. He followed this up over a month with lighting so perfect that we marvel each night. The chandelier he chose is a wonder of different sized crystal globes that hangs over the dining table. His choices for colors for throws, pillows, carpets, window treatments and cabinet colors were very different than what we expected and yet so perfect that we still marvel at his insight. We believe he has a true genius for creative color.
The brilliance in color and design continues in our bathrooms, with marble counters, rich wood cabinets, beige and brown tiles with elegant designs, marble floors and modern handles and faucets. He chose a wall lamp for the master bath that functions as much a piece of art as lighting.
Charlie worked with us and our contractor to redesign the kitchen: knocking down a wall, dropping a ceiling, creating innovative lighting and virtually doubling our cabinet space. Three black granite slabs complete our now-open kitchen that permits a flood of light and grand views of the city in which we reside in comfort and peace.
We are very grateful for Charlie's guidance, sensitivity to our wishes and flexibility. He was extremely attentive and always made himself available for questions and shopping trips. He accommodated our hectic schedules and saved us a tremendous amount of time. It was always a pleasure to spend time with him. We could never have achieved the beautiful results without him.
